SideStream Hack 2026 – Registration Is Now Open
Summary
Registration is now open for SideStream Hack 2026, the first hackathon in the FoodForward annual series. The 24-hour interdisciplinary event will take place on November 26–27, 2026, bringing together students, researchers, and industry partners to develop innovative solutions for transforming industrial side streams into valuable resources.
The Carasso FoodTech Innovation Center is excited to announce the opening of registration for SideStream Hack 2026, the first hackathon in the annual FoodForward series.
Organized by the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering, in collaboration with the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering at the Technion, the event will bring together multidisciplinary student teams to work on real challenges submitted by leading companies from the food, biotechnology, chemical, materials, water, and energy industries.
The focus of this year’s hackathon is industrial side streams — materials and resources generated during production processes that are currently underutilized or assigned low value.
Participants will be challenged to develop practical, innovative solutions that can transform these streams into products, materials, processes, or technologies with economic, technological, and environmental value.
Throughout the 24-hour event, teams will work with mentors from academia and industry, gaining direct exposure to real-world challenges, interdisciplinary teamwork, and rapid technology development.
Challenge Reveal Event
Ahead of the hackathon, a dedicated Challenge Reveal Event will take place on November 3, 2026.
Participants will meet the participating companies, learn about the industrial challenges for the first time, and begin forming multidisciplinary teams.
Prizes
The hackathon will include prizes for the leading teams, including a ₪5,000 first prize.
